Anthony “Tony” Simoni III, 46, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Indian Hills Care Center after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel.
Tony was born on Dec. 2, 1960, the son of Shirley “Cookie” Simoni and Anthony “Tony” Simony Jr. He graduated from East High School in 1979 and attended Morningside College, the University of Iowa and received an associate’s degree from WIT for mechanical drafting. Tony worked as a computer draftsman at Tyson Foods. He entered the U.S. Army Reserves in 1986, earning the rank of Sfc. and becoming a certified master fitness trainer. He retired in 2003 for medical reasons.
Tony was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, where he volunteered in many different Catholic charities. He was a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a Big Brother for the Big Brother/Big Sisters of Siouxland. He was a very gifted artist. He was an active member of the Sioux City Artists Association. In 2005 and 2006, his artwork was displayed in the Terra Centre Atrium. His hobbies included collecting football cards and building model racing boats. Tony loved to water ski, bicycle and participated in many 5K and 10K races. He loved his daughters, family and also his friends. He was very fond of his dogs.
Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca “Becky” and Megan Simoni, both of Sioux City; his mother, Shirley “Cookie” Simoni of Sioux City; his father and step-mother, Anthony “Tony” Simoni Jr. and Judi Simoni of Dakota Dunes; two sisters, Sherri and her husband, Victor Cortina of Spartanburg, S.C., and Nicotte “Nicki” and her husband, Dan Healey of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Jeff Simoni of Sioux City; two step-brothers, Mike McManamy and his wife, Amy, and Kevin McManamy and his wife, Kristie, all of Sioux City; his paternal grandmother, Edna Simoni of DeWitt, Iowa; his former wife and friend, Mabet Simoni of Sioux City; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sioux City Art Center for children’s art programs.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Cutler, Terry Moorehead, Ssgt. Robby O’Hern, Brad Prout, Dan Bauerly and Sfc. Trampus Braum.
