Alice Elaine Leopold, 85, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at a local nursing home in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave) with a Visitation taking place one hour prior. Her final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.

Alice was born on March 25, 1941, to Vernon and Marie (Putnam) Stowe in Jefferson, South Dakota. Alice spent her childhood in Jefferson before the family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1944. She graduated from Central High School, Class of 1959.

After graduating high school, Alice served her country in the Women's Army Corps at Fort Benning in Georgia from August 1959 until she was honorably discharged in February 1961. During her service, Alice met Edward J. Leopold, and the two were married at Fort Benning on December 9, 1960. The couple moved around together, living in Long Island, York, from 1961 to 1973, then in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, from 1977 till 1996. Alice and Edward were together for over 35 years until his passing on March 13, 1996. Alice returned to Sioux City in 1996, where she remained until her passing.

Alice was a registered Dental Assistant at Richard K. Bokemper DDS and worked as a chairside dental assistant for over 40 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Marie (Brian) Marshall of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Deborah (John) Allison of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; her brothers, Raymond (Mary Lou) Stowe of Littleton, Colorado, and Charles (Soni) Stowe of Sioux City, Iowa; her sisters, Judy Gustad of Tucson, Arizona, and Dolores “Dorey” (Deion Weltikol) Stowe of Fargo, North Dakota; as well as 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Marie Stowe; husband, Edward Leopold; daughter, Cathy Birdsell; granddaughter, Courtney Curl; sister, Leora Stowe; brothers, David, Larry, and Robert Stowe; nephew, Kyle Heck; and brother-in-law, Wally Gustad.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Iowa Dental Society’s Mission of Mercy, the Siouxland Humane Society, or Hospice of the Midwest for their great care of Alice.
