Mary Delmay Eckhoff, 82 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota died on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 3rd at Miller Funeral Home South located at 7400 S. Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57108. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Clark, SD.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Miller Funeral Home South, located at 7400 S. Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57108.
Mary was born May 4, 1937 in Lily, South Dakota to Herbert W. and Mary Elizabeth Miller Audus. She grew up on the family farm in Thorp Township in Clark County, SD. Mary graduated from Thorp Township High School and went on to attend nursing school at Peabody Memorial Hospital in Webster, SD. She married Virgil L. Eckhoff June 24, 1956 at Clark, SD. The couple had 3 children; John, Cynthia and Dan. Mary worked for a few years before becoming a homemaker when John was born. She participated in many community activities, church activities and committees in the many banking communities (Clark, SD, Benson, MN Blue Earth, MN, Lidgerwood, ND, Windom, MN) which she and Virgil lived over the years. When Virgil retired in 1993, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be closer to family. Mary decided to go to work as a bridal consultant for Younkers Department Stores. She was Store Employee of the Year in 1998 and received the Cornerstone award in 2000 from Younkers. She was a charter member of Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls
Mary’s hobbies included golf, traveling, sewing, home decorating, oil painting, decorating Ukrainian eggs, reading, and puzzles.
Surviving are her children, John & Sara Eckhoff of Sioux City, IA, Cynthia & William Nassen of Sioux Falls, SD and Dan & Kelly Eckhoff of Sioux City, IA; 5 grandchildren, Mark Nassen, Kristin Nassen, Henry Eckhoff, Cora Eckhoff, and Emily Eckhoff; sister, Clara Hector of San Juan Capistrano, CA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, parents, brothers; James, John, Wesley, Walter, Donald and Ethan, 2 infant sisters; Margaret and Mary, and a sister Ann Hartley.
Memorials can be directed to either Rose Hill Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, Clark, SD or the American Cancer Society.
