Madonna R. Weigand

Madonna “Donna” R. Weigand, 82, of Sioux City, passed away Dec. 25, 2017 at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 7 p.m. Dec, 29 at 7 p.m. at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave. in Sioux City. Family visitation will be Friday, Dec. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.christysmith.com . Donna was born on Feb. 2, 1935 in Sioux City to Albert (Shy) and Matilda Anderson. Donna was one of 11 siblings. Donna was a wonderful sister, who cared deeply for her family. Donna attended schools in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. After graduation, she went to work for the Sioux City Stockyards, where she met Roger and later married. Donna was a stay-at-home mom for her two children. She took on a part-time job in order to stay at home and worked knitting horse halters for Stockmans. As her children got older, she went to work for the Sioux City Public Library for 17 years. Her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Donna retired early to care for him. Later he went to a care facility where she visited every day. Donna was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
Donna’s hobbies were card playing with several longtime friends. 50 years of cards and friendships made her very happy. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting but spending time with her family was most important. She also loved listening to Garth Brooks and got to attend a concert to see him in person.
Donna was survived by three sisters, Doris, Linda and Sharon; her children, Lori Ann Morehead of Sioux City and Michael Weigand of Seattle, Wash. and his partner, Eric; her three grandchildren, Melissa Dahna and her husband, Bill, Nathan Morehead and Nick Conley and his girlfriend, Hailey; two great grandchildren, Kaydence and Colton and a third grandchild on his way.
Preceeding her in death were her husband, Roger; parents; brothers, Jack, Dick, Bill, Bob and Moose and sisters, Squeek and Laurie. Also her best friend from high school, Barb Rother.
