Cecil E. Weber, 89, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer.

Cecil, the son of Clarence Frederick and Minnie Margaret (Unkel) Weber, was born on Jan. 26, 1929, on the family farm near Holly Springs, Iowa. He grew up on the farm and graduated as valedictorian of his class from Holly Springs Consolidated School in 1946. In January 1947, he attended National Business School for eight months. He knew that his parents could not afford the tuition anymore, so in September 1947, he started looking for a job. He applied at two places and was offered a job as the bookkeeper at Burke Lumber Company's Riverside location. Two years later, Cecil was promoted to manager of Burke Lumber Company's Leeds location.
At the same time, he met the love of his life, Lila N. Larson, and they married on June 18, 1950 at Smithland Methodist Church. In January 1952, Cecil was drafted and served with the U.S. Army. He and Lila were stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. After eight weeks of basic training, he attended clerk typist courses to gain his Military Occupational Specialty. Upon graduation, Cecil was assigned to the Office of Adjutant General at Fort Leonard Wood. He received his honorable discharge on Feb. 14, 1954 and returned to Sioux City, where he continued working at Burke Lumber Company in Leeds. In April 1957, he transferred to Burke Engineering Sales Co. After more than 71 years with the Burke Companies, Cecil finally retired from working.
Cecil was a man who enjoyed working with his hands, as he was an avid woodworker. He loved building and designing things around his house. Cecil was also a part of the Sioux Valley Credit Union Board of Directors for 22 years.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lila; his four children, Lynn Weber and his wife, Christina, Dena Kozak and her husband, Chris, Roland Weber, and Fred Weber; his eight grandchildren, Ryan Weber and his wife, Shelly, Christopher Pappadackis and his wife, Joslyn, Justin Weber and his girlfriend, Nancy Anderson, Stephanie Pappadackis and her boyfriend, Michael Hammel, Alex Weber, Elizabeth "Libby" Weber, Jordan Weber, and Jenna Weber; and his five great-grandchildren, Levi Pappadackis, Mia Weber, Lincoln Cecil Pappadackis, Kristopher Wurtz, and Shawn Fitch.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merald Weber and his wife, Jewell; and sister, Norma Christensen and her husband, Paul.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Cecil's name to Wesley United Methodist Church and Hospice of Siouxland.
