Wesley J. Roeschke

Wesley J. Roeschke, 83, of Moville, passed away, surrounded by his family, Wednesday, April 5, 2017.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Moville United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville.
Wes was born on May 5, 1933, in rural Moville, to George and Minnie (Bush) Roeschke. He graduated first in his class from Lawton (Iowa) High School in 1951. After joining the U.S. Navy, ,he served on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany overseas until honorably discharged in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Donna Davis on Aug. 21, 1955 at the Federated Church in Moville. They resided in Anaheim, Calif. from 1956 to 1962 when they returned home to Iowa after purchasing the farm on which they lived for the past 55 years.
Wes was a true jack-of-all-trades. A farmer first, he was also a mechanic, welder, carpenter, and a school bus driver. Wes was a progressive farmer who received many local and regional awards for his work on soil conservation. He was honored on 1999 with the Century Conservation Farmer of the Year award. His favorite pastime was restoring 1967 pickups. Wes was a member of Moville United Methodist Church, serving as the chairman of the board for many years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna of Moville; son, Kelly (d'Jon) Roeschke of Plano, Texas; daughter, Lori (Blaine) Borland of Moville; three grandchildren, Haylie Borland of San Diego, Calif., Claire Roeschke of Dallas, Texas, and Davis Roeschke, of Plano, Texas; sisters, Joann Alber and Joyce (Richard) Baltz; aunt, Joyce Wurscher; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Wendel (Ann) Roeschke; sister and brother-in-law, LaVonne (Edward) Benning; and brother-in-law, Chet Alber.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a donation to a charity of Wes's choice.
