Richard Dean Kelly

Richard Dean Kelly, 82, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Parish St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Hemann officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Richard was born on Nov. 7, 1935, in Mitchell, S.D. He attended Sioux Falls Community Schools until moving to Sioux City in 1945, where he continued his schooling and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1954. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine from July 1955 to October 1959.
He was united in marriage with Mary M. Giesen on Sept. 29, 1962, at Cathedral of the Epiphany Church in Sioux City. Richard worked at IBP/Tyson Foods for 40 years as a trainer for production workers.
Richard was a member of Holy Cross Parish St. Michael's Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. He attended and enjoyed his fellowship at Sioux City PACE.
Richard's life will always be remembered by his loving wife of 55 years, Marti; his children, Colleen Olson (Shane) of Omaha, Scott Kelly (Debbie) of Bronson, Iowa, Tim Kelly (Dani) of Nashville, Tenn., Jodi Kelly of Omaha, Mollie O'Hara (Bryan) of Omaha, and Tony Kelly (Michelle) of Omaha; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Kelly of Sioux City, and Bill Mattis of Los Cruses, N.M.; and a sister, Judy Hart of Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Michael Dean; infant daughter, Mary Joellen; infant grandson, Sean Patrick O'Hara; and a sister, Charlotte Hatten.
