Marcia L. Byers, the daughter of Paul and Catherine (Becker) Byers, was born Dec. 7, 1958, in Le Mars, Iowa. She graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School in 1977 and went on to study at St. Joseph School of Radiology.
On July 31, 1981, Marcia was united in marriage with Rick Moore in Moville, Iowa. In 1982, Marcia graduated from Morningside College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Biology, along with earning her Teaching Certificate. She taught at St. Michael Catholic Junior High School in South Sioux City, Neb., while also working as a Radiologist.
Marcia went on to teach Chemistry and Biology at Heelan High School, and was also the assistant and head coach for the high school volleyball team. She then taught and coached at North High in Sioux City. In 2003, Marcia went to St. Luke’s College as a Radiology instructor.
Marcia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and formerly a member of Blessed Sacrament, where she nurtured the rose garden. In 2014, the couple moved to McCook Lake so that Marcia’s love of the lake and other outdoor activities were right out the front door. These included stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, bicycling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, and tending her flower garden.
Marcia is survived by her husband, Rick of McCook Lake; a son, Casey (Annie) Moore of Richfield, Minn.; three grandsons, Charlie, Henry and Freddie Moore; five siblings, Rita (Rick) Belz of Longmont, Colo., Michael (Shelly) Byers of Moville, Iowa, Theresa (Mark) Wunschel of Ida Grove, Iowa, Gary (Chris) Byers of Lawton, Iowa, and Julia Byers of Hornick, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ben and Amanda Byers; her parents; and a sister, Linda Weinert.
