Gertrude Paul, 92, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Roger Madden, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Gertie was born on July 31, 1924, in Sioux City, to Herman and Josephine (Wauhob) Den Hartog. She graduated from East High School in 1942.
Gertie was united in marriage to Arthur S. Paul on Aug. 15, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2005. Gertie worked at Wincharger for several years, as well as a nurses aide at St. Luke's Hospital.
Gertie was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. She also attended the Church of All Nations and sang in the choir.
Those left to honor her memory include nephews and nieces, Ronald (Sara) Barnes of Hacienda Heights, Calif., John (Caryl) Wilton of Omaha, Paul (Janine) Wilton of Sioux City, Philip (Sue) Wilton of Las Vegas, Nev., Chuck (Gloria) Den Hartog of Monroe City, Mo., Fred (Connie) Backert of Greer, S.C., Karen Gohlke of Waterloo, Iowa, David (Karen) Den Hartog of Camdenton, Mo., Riley (Judy) Warddrip of Mount Dora, Fla., Michelle Paul of Kansas City, Mo., Michael Paul of Aztec, N.M., and Susan (Larry) Miller of Emerson, Neb.; sister-in-law, Katie Paul of Emerson; and caregiver, Rebecca (Braden) Keith of Lawton, Iowa. She is also survived by many grandnephews and nieces and great-grandnephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and siblings and spouses, Herman (Mabel) Den Hartog, M. Dolly (Charles) Wilton, Rev. Dr. George (Clara Ann) Den Hartog, Mildred (Rev. Dr. Harold) Backert, and Marie (August) Krause.
