Elvira T. Alvarez

Elvira T. Alvarez, 100, of Sioux City, entered into eternal life Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Elvira Theresa Rojas was born on Nov. 17, 1916, in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. She came to the United States as a young child and attended Cathedral and Central High Schools.
Elvira married Asuncion Alvarez on Aug. 1, 1937, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1990. They made their home in Sioux City and raised three children, Robert, Patrick, and Linda. Elvira worked at Swift's, Dean Drug, and Younker-Davidson's.
Elvira was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, The Catholic Daughters of America, and the 20 Year Club at Younker's. She was a meticulous housekeeper and a great cook. Elvira's pies were picture perfect. She loved spending time with her family and cooking delicious meals for them.
Elvira is survived by her children, Patrick (Norma) Alvarez of Anchorage, Alaska, and Linda (Gary) Bracht of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, June Alvarez of New York; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Asuncion; a son, Robert; and two brothers, Harry and Andrew.
