Carol J. Nelson

Carol Jean Nelson, 87, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 24 at Morningside Lutheran Church. Private interment will be in Graceland Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 23, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Carol was born on April 11, 1930, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Clifford and Grace (Carolus) North. She graduated from New Hartford High School in 1947.
Carol was united in marriage to Harry Nelson on Nov. 3, 1956 in Manchester, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2003. Carol worked for Sioux City Community Schools for 21 years, retiring in 1994.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, Esther Circle, Siouxland Multi-Cultural board, and the South Sioux City Eagles Auxiliary.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dave (Sandi) Nelson of Maple Grove, Minn., Beth (Jeremiah) Reese of Jefferson, S.D., and Karen (Tim) Hammond of White Bear Lake, Minn.; siblings, Margaret Caley, Winifred Gilbert, Sharon (Don) Feckers, and Robert (Jeanna) North; grandchildren, Amanda (Jon) Holmes, Erik Nelson, Greg Nelson (special friend, Stephanie Thompson), Caitlin Nelson, Wade Klein, and Annika Klein; and her great-grandchildren.
