COMING EVENTS
Cherish Our Children Walk - On Sunday, September 14, 2008 a special event will be held to bring together people from our Siouxland community who share a common bond: they have all experienced the death of a child. Anyone is invited to participate in the "Cherish The Child" Walk, as it will be a chance to stand together and remember children or all ages who have died and will never be forgotten. The walk will begin at 1:00 p.m. (rain or shine) at our Christy-Smith Resource Center, 1819 Morningside Ave., Sioux City. It will finish at Latham Park (approximately 10 block away) with a brief remembrance service. Refreshments will be served at our Resource Center following the remembrance service. There is no fee to attend, but pre-registration is required. Please call Christy-Smith Funeral Home at 712-276-7319. Registration begins at 12:30 with the handing our of balloons, so come early to avoid the rush.
BROKEN SILENCE SUPPORT GROUP is a program for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one through suicide. The program is both an educational and a group experience where participants can talk about their feelings in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. The program is directed by Brenda Zahnley, Director of Bereavement Services at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Mrs. Zahnley holds a Masters degree in counseling and has both personal and professional training in the dynamics of grief. Broken Silence will be offered for seven consecutive weeks beginning on Monday evening, September 4, 2008, and it will run through October 16, 2008. The time frame will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and the sessions are held in the fireside room at the Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, Iowa.
