Every year on the second Sunday of September, Christy-Smith sponsors this walk to honor and and remember our children. The walk begins at 1:00 p.m. at Christy-Smith Family Resource Center, 1819 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa (rain or shine). It finishes at Latham Park (approximately 10 blocks away) with a brief remembrance service, which includes special readings, music and a balloon send-off. Participants will then walk back to the Resource Center for refreshments and fellowship. There is no fee to attend, but pre-registration is required. Don't miss this opportunity to remember and "cherish the child" that you loved.
A Step Beyond:
This support group is designed for those who have experienced a loss of any kind. The format is designed to help people move beyond grief and learn how to live again. Discover friendship and fellowship! Meets the second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. (except for special events in August, November and December) at Christy-Smith Family Resource Center, 1810 Morningside Avenue.
Community of Daughters:
This 4-week grief group is for any woman who has experienced the death of her mother through illness, accident, sudden death or suicide. You will be provided with educational information about the grieving process as well as provide you with a safe environment where you can express your feelings openly without criticism or judgment. Broken Silence Suicide Support Group:
This is a 7-week structured support group that helps individuals move through the intense emotions of grief when loved one has died by suicide. Some of the topics include: understanding grief and suicide, guilt, depression, and dealing with anniversaries and holidays.The group is facilitated by Brenda Zahnley, MSE, the bereavement counselor at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Picking Up the Pieces: Young Widow's Support Group:
This is a 5-week support group for women "35-50ish." This group combines educational components as well as a safe environment to safe feelings opening with other young widows.
